Christmas to Kassydi

And the count down to Christmas begins ! . It's the 22 of December and if you aren't ready for Christmas this late into the game then your just like me (lol) . We just put our tree up and Decorated the stockings to hang. My daughter Kassydi asked me what was Christmas (yes at 3!), and I honestly didn't know what to say . Christmas is a man made holiday that was created to make people go broke ,  Christmas is the celebration for the birth of baby Jesus so we give presents to our loved ones to honor him, Christmas is a holiday that celebrates giving so you give to those in need. You see , Christmas has a ton of different meanings , it just depends on your stand point . What I told Kassydi at first was Christmas is about celebrating your family members and showing your appreciation but as soon as I said it I felt guilty. That may be how we celebrate it but that's not what its about . My point was to teach her that Christmas is not about what you get, but about what you give . For her to be so young , all she talks about is what Santa will bring her lol . Sure , this may be normal, for kids that's all it's about . I never want my children to be that shallow , even for the holidays. Its always better to be selfless than selfish . So the big ? . What is Christmas? Christmas is whatever you want it to be . Kassydi call's Santa Daddy Santa and Mommy Santa or whoever else gives her something and I'm fine with that. But if you want your kids to believe Santa is this Jolly Fat Bellied man, so be it.  For me and my family it is the celebration of Jesus Christ and family. Kassydi went from saying "my tree " to "God's tree" and I prefer that. She may not be able to understand what that truly means but I'm 24 and still don't . So when your faced with the “What is Christmas “ question , ask yourself what is Christmas to you!
