When was the last time you checked in on you? Yes, I said it; Y O U. Self-care is so important in this day and age. CAUTION: PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF WITH BEING SELFISH. Selfcare when tended too appropriately is anything but self-serving. Self-care when done right is soul care.

Now for most of you, when you hear selfcare you instantly look down at those beautiful ombre nails or those bomb ass Jordan’s you just stood in line for. But, when I say self-care I am referring to the intangible. What have YOU done for YOU mentally, emotionally, and/or physically? When was the last time you were honest with yourself about how you feel, what you desire and actually took the steps necessary to improve that state of mind? Did you know the greatest form of currency is energy? What if we invested more of our energy into the betterment of our inner selves? Imagine how powerful we would be.

Let’s be clear; I'm not referring to those people who think it's okay to mishandle other people to make themselves feel worth something, or how about the ones who believe self-care is appearing careless. NO, I’m talking about creating a real ass relationship with the three selves we learned about from Beyonce; Me, Myself, & I (and Sigmund Freud of course). Each one represents a different realm of the self but they’re all important and needs the proper nourishment.

The "Me" stands for the child like essence inside of you; "Me" needs to forgive the past so he/she can focus more on the future and less on child/adulthood traumas (easier said than done right? I know!). Continuously reliving the same horrors only depletes and discredits the person who made it out, the one who’s still standing! Be confident and bold! "Me" is a survivor. He/she made it through despite the deadly environment.

Then there’s "Myself"; Now "Myself" represents those subconscious beliefs we’ve internalized so much that to think anything other than what’s been programmed into us feels like a lie. Did you know if you hear a lie enough times it’ll become your truth? Take care of "Myself" by reprogramming those negative thoughts that are on repeat! Create a regime that’ll rewire the way you view yourself because your opinion is truly the only one that matters. Everyone in your life has the choice to be there EXCEPT you! So, cut the Debbie downer self-hate and let’s build ourselves up! Find a secluded mirror and reaffirm who you truly are. Speak nothing but positive words like beautiful, smart, handsome, funny, confident, hopeful, faithful, worthy and so on! After all, Michael did say to start with the man in the mirror; so, a little one on one with thyself can’t be too abnormal …. Right?

Lastly, the ”I” represents the presentation of how well we tend to “Me” and “Myself“. He/she can be blamed for the masking of whether or not we really are okay; It’s the procrastination, the addictions we choose to escape the inner conflict we like to deny. “I” needs more accountability and to make better decisions. Decide to accomplish those goals, or better yet; set some! Get you a journal and write down who you want to become within the near, medium and distant future and start working towards it! Doing a little a day will make a BIG difference later down the line. The “I” persona is the one I struggle with the most; it’s the bang behind the shot, the ACTION! you hear screamed on set; The materialized healthy ”Me” and “Myself”.

.

So when I say selfcare I mean real, raw and true care of thyself because people will mishandle you your entire life if they sense you lack the proper nourishment. Now that we've covered all the bases, I’ll ask again; how are YOU doing? When was the last time YOU checked in on YOU and was genuinely honest? Have YOU truly been taking care of YOU? If not, let’s get to it! We are only getting older and if you haven't noticed the world around us is only becoming more and more unhinged. Therefore, those toxic relationships you were holding on to for dear life? If it's not serving Y O U, let it go. That dead end job that "pays the bills", stop putting more into that than into yourself and your goals. You want to work out or eat better? Start crafting fun ways to make those life changes. Surrender to what elicits the most vibrant vibrations inside of you and develop more internally joyful habits because at the end of it all, we humans only want one thing…. well maybe three; PEACE, LOVE & JOY
